A message from our Chair
I’ve experienced first-hand the challenges families and carers face when a loved one is living with a dementia diagnosis.
As a carer for my dear wife Mary, and an advocate for my late sister and brother-in-law as their health declined due to the condition, I understand the many practical, medical, and emotional decisions that must be made.
These challenges only intensify as symptoms progress. While there are some excellent support agencies, knowing who to turn to and for what service isn’t always clear. Health and social care services can be disjointed, vary between local authority areas, and are often overstretched due to rising demand and limited funding.
You frequently feel isolated and forced into making heart-wrenching decisions, such as moving a life partner into care, when it’s the last thing you want to do.
Often, you’re not even sure what kind of support you need, be it respite, clinical, or emotional.
At Unique-Minds, the charity founded in memory of my sister and brother-in-law, we believe there is real reason for hope.
